The Midwest Clinic Concert
The Sartartia Middle School Symphony orchestra accepted an invitation to perform a concert at the Midwest Clinic on December 18, 2007.
The Midwest Clinic is a non-profit organization that sponsors an annual convention for band and orchestra educators, administrators, composers, arrangers, college and university professors and general music teachers. The clinic draws from 50 states and 30 nations. Generally, enrollment runs more than 15,000 people.
Being invited to perform a concert at the Midwest Clinic is considered by band and orchestra directors to be an enormous honor. Many Orchestra and Band
directors consider a performance at the Midwest Clinic to be the highlight of their careers.
Sartartia Orchestra was selected among scores of applicants as the only Middle School Orchestra invited to perform at this prestigious event. The group performed a program of 9 selections, representing a variety of styles and composers. Three selections can be currently viewed at Midwest Clinic Video .

Subject: Symphony Orchestra Invited to Perform at National Convention
Dear Students and Parents,
I received a letter yesterday inviting the Sartartia Middle School Symphony Orchestra to perform at the 2009 American String Teachers National Convention in Atlanta , Georgia . The American String Teachers Association, founded more than 60 years ago, is the United States major organization for string and orchestra teachers and players. Their mission is to promote excellence in string and orchestra teaching and playing.
Thirty orchestras submitted applications, including a CD of the orchestra’s performance, past programs, and references. Sartartia Middle school is one of four orchestras invited to perform. The thirty applications included both middle school and high school string and full orchestras. It is huge honor to be asked to perform at a National Convention.
This performance would be different than that of the Midwest Clinic as there are few restrictions as to repertoire. The time slots are one hour, which means approximately 45- 50 minutes of music, or 9 to 10 musical selections.
The Convention will be held at the Marriot Marquis. The only consideration is that dates of the trip would be Thursday, March 19 through Monday March 23. Spring Break begins the week of March 16.
I am working with Tour-rific Travel Company to get preliminary pricing for the trip, especially airline as there have been many changes in that industry in the past several months. Because this is a National String Teachers Convention, we would look into the educational musical activities available at the convention, as well as other cultural attractions in the Atlanta area.
I will get back to you ASAP with some preliminary pricing. We will probably need to collect a deposit in July in order to hold the airline tickets.
